Here’s the blurb from our illustrious presenting partners, the Center for Traditional Music and Dance: Sunday, October 25: CTMD’s An-sky Institute for Jewish Culture is pleased to present a special concert and Tantshoyz Yiddish dance party celebrating the release on Smithsonian Folkways of a new CD by the Brother Nazaroff entitled The Happy Prince. In 1954, the mysterious outsider Yiddish troubadour Nathan “Prince” Nazaroff recorded a now-legendary album, “Jewish Freilach Songs” for Moe Asch and Folkways. The album has become a cult favorite for Yiddish music fans with all its discordant, obscure, jubilant and ecstatic glory. The Brothers Nazaroff is a supergroup paying tribute to the Prince and featuring Daniel “Danik Nazaroff” Kahn, Psoy “Pasha Nazaroff” Korolenko, Michael “Mishka Nazaroff” Alpert and Jake “Yankl Nazaroff” Shulman-Ment – converging from Berlin, Moscow, Scotland and Westchester. The group’s members regularly perform with ensembles such as the Painted Bird, Brave Old World and Di Naye Kapelye. At the Ukrainian East Village Restaurant, 140 Second Avenue in Manhattan’s East Village between St Mark’s and 9th Streets. Admission $15. Programmed as a special preview event for Yiddish New York (www.yiddishnewyork.com) in partnership with the Sholem Aleichem Cultural Center and Golden Land Concerts and Connections. (Concert starts at 7:00PM, doors open at 6:30PM)
SEE YOU THERE! NAZAROVYE!
